Our History

L’azienda vitivinicola Lozza ha una grande tradizione alle spalle. La storia dell’azienda affonda le sue radici nel ‘700, periodo storico in cui i feudatari “Isimbardi-Vismara” detenevano il controllo del territorio attraverso contratti di mezzadria. Il Trisnonno Vittorio, lavorando come mezzadro, coltivava vigneti già alla fine dell’800. Il Bisnonno Luigi continuò sulla stessa strada nei primi anni del ‘900, coinvolgendo nel lavoro anche Nonno Giocondo, fin da bambino.
The Lozza winery has a great tradition behind it. The history of the company has its roots in the 18th century, a historical period in which the feudal lords “Isimbardi-Vismara” held control of the territory through sharecropping contracts. His great-grandfather Vittorio, working as a sharecropper, was already cultivating vineyards at the end of the 19th century. Great-grandfather Luigi continued along the same path in the early 1900s, involving Grandfather Giocondo in the work as a child. In the 1930s, a cousin opened a tavern in Milan and the first deliveries of demijohns of wine began, at the time with a horse-drawn cart, the same cart that was used for tilling and fertilising the soil. After the war, the fall of sharecropping led to such an increase in work that Nonno Giocondo and his father officially founded an agricultural company in 1946 called “Azienda Agricola Lozza”. From the initial half a hectare, they grew to 10 in the early 1990s; the imminent entry of Papa Roberto was instrumental in expanding the market, especially with the decision to bottle wine. Today, the company has also welcomed the fourth generation, that of Rebecca, a young oenologist who, with love and passion, works side by side with Daddy Roberto in the aim of enhancing the potential of this ancient and generous production area: the Oltrepò Pavese.

Roberto è sempre stato appassionato di trattori, vigna e vino, per questo motivo ha iniziato ad essere presente in Azienda con il papà Giocondo fin da quando era un bambino. Data la sua grande passione ha perseguito gli studi nel ramo dell’agroalimentare diplomandosi all’istituto tecnico agrario “Carlo Gallini” di Voghera, dopo di che è entrato subito in Azienda. Per qualche anno ha potuto lavorare insieme al papà, il quale però, purtroppo, è venuto a mancare precocemente, quando Roberto aveva a malapena 26 anni. I primi anni da solo sono stati difficoltosi, fortunatamente è stato aiutato dalla Mamma Bruna e dai suoi fratelli, nonché zii di Roberto: Franco; Felice e Giuliano. Ad oggi può essere fiero per aver portato alto il nome del Papà Giocondo e di aver migliorato l’Azienda Agricola portandola ad una vera e propria Azienda enoturistica.

Future: Rebecca Lozza

Rebecca in the company represents the fourth generation of the Lozza family. Like her father Roberto, she too pursued studies in the agri-food branch, graduating from the “Carlo Gallini” agrarian technical institute in Voghera, but decided not to stop there. With the intention of bringing innovation, knowledge and improvement, she decided to pursue studies in Viticulture and Oenology in Milan, where she graduated with the title of Oenologist with top marks. That was not enough, so she decided to specialise in Viticulture with a Master's Degree in Udine, which she also completed with top marks. Since 2022, she has been actively involved in the company and works every day with her father Roberto to aim for the best quality, trying to create the perfect combination of tradition and innovation.
